The Birth of Ruby Tuesday's
A Journey Rooted in Passion and Community
Ruby Tuesday’s Voice began from a place of what I like to call "enlightened self-interest."
After I had to put my guitar playing to rest due to an unfortunate condition, I found myself searching for a way to fill that creative void. I knew I needed something to channel that energy, and at the same time, I saw fewer opportunities for musicians to perform, especially midweek. This realisation sparked the idea to create a new space—a platform that would not only showcase jazz but also embrace a broader range of influences.

One evening, I walked into The Pelican Club, where I’ve always had great conversations with Harry and Dan. They’re as passionate about music as I am and eager to expand their venue's reach., particularly in the week. Together, we conjured up the concept of Ruby Tuesday’s—a night dedicated to providing a stage for artists to perform and audiences to experience something fresh and exciting.

Since my days with Arboretum Records, I’ve always been committed to nurturing new talent. With the help of Parisa East, who runs Acoustickle, we collaborated to bring in some of her stable of incredible young artists who have since become a mainstay of the Ruby Tuesday’s project.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to keep evolving Ruby Tuesday’s. We’ve introduced a monthly slot where new artists can perform a couple of tracks with the fantastic Mighties as their backing band. It’s a joy to see Simon, Roger, Rachael, Ellis, Tom, and, of course, you, Ronnie, stepping in with backing vocals or the occasional tune.
I can’t express enough how much your support means to me, Ronnie. Your enthusiasm, assistance, and encouragement, telling off and general fabulousness have been invaluable—I’m forever in your debt.
Ultimately, Ruby Tuesday’s is a source of great joy for me. I love the groove that Dan, our DJ, brings to the night. I’m in awe of all the artists, their interpretations, and the magic they bring to the stage. It’s surreal to be recognised in the street, but at the end of the day, I’m just here for the music, enjoying a drink, and occasionally blowing on my harmonica.
Much love and gratitude. — Mark Strawbridge (aka The Mighty Lupo)
WHAT PEOPLE SAY

TERRIFIC NIGHT OUT!
One of the key factors in making my decision about going along to this event was the availability of great food and being able to stay seated! So this was a real 'night out out' as far as I'm concerned. The band and soloists were fantastic, each set the perfect length giving time for chatting with my friends in between. Food was delicious (I had the steak followed by Tiramisu) and I had a cheeky cocktail too. Perfect intimate venue.
